Privacy
ExamUp is a free practice-exam site for Australian students in Years 3 to 12. Many of the people who use it are children, so we keep as little as we can, use it only to run the site, and never sell it. This page explains what we keep and why, in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.
What we keep
- Your account: name, email address, password (stored only in scrambled form, so nobody can read it, us included), state or territory, year level and the picture you choose.
- A parent’s email address, if one is given at sign-up.
- Your exams: the answers you give, your marks, and how far through an exam you are, so you can stop and come back.
- For families: which children a parent has added to their account.
- Anything you send us: problem reports about a question, and emails to us.
What we keep on your device
- One cookie that keeps you signed in. It is needed for the site to work, and it lasts 30 days.
- Your light or dark choice, and the year and state you were browsing, stored in your own browser.
- We use no advertising or tracking cookies. Our host, Cloudflare, counts visits without cookies, in totals only.
How we use it
- To run your exams, mark them and show your progress.
- To let a parent see their own child’s progress, including following an exam live while it is being sat. Children are told on the exam page when a parent can follow along.
- To fix questions that someone reports as wrong.
- To keep the site safe: for example, we briefly note the internet address of failed sign-in attempts (for 15 minutes) to stop people guessing passwords.
What we never do
- We never sell or rent your information, and we show no ads.
- We never use your answers or details to train AI.
- We never share your results with schools or anyone else, unless you or your parent chooses to (for example with a progress link).
Children under 15
A child under 15 can only make an account with the agreement of a parent or guardian, who is asked for at sign-up. Parents can also make one family account and add their children to it. A parent can ask us at any time what we keep about their child, ask us to correct it, or delete it.
AI help
Our practice questions are written and checked with the help of AI. When a student asks for a question to be explained more simply, the question and its answer (never the student’s name or details) are sent to our AI provider to write the explanation. Our AI providers (OpenAI and Anthropic) are based in the United States.
Where it is kept
Your information is kept on a server we run, protected by encryption in transit (https), and backed up each night to a separate disk; backups are kept for 7 days. Our website traffic passes through Cloudflare, which has data centres around the world. By using ExamUp you agree that your information may pass through these overseas services, which protect it to standards similar to Australia’s.
Seeing, correcting or deleting it
You can see and change your details in My Space. You can delete your account there at any time: this deletes your profile, your exams and results, your progress links and everything else we keep about you (copies in our backups are gone within 7 days). A child’s profile is removed by the parent who added it. For anything else, email us at [email protected].
Questions or complaints
Email [email protected] and we will reply within 30 days. If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au, 1300 363 992).
